National Taiwan Museum Four-Branch Experience
National Taiwan Museum Main Hall & Paleontology Museum
Founded in 1908, the National Taiwan Museum is Taiwan's oldest existing museum. Originally called the Taiwan Governor-General's Museum, it specializes in natural history collections. The Paleontology Museum, previously the Taiwan Industrial Bank's Taipei branch, was designated as a historic site by the Ministry of the Interior in 1991, and in 1997, it became a city-designated heritage site. Since 2005, the museum has overseen the restoration and management of the building, which now serves as a museum focusing on both natural history and financial history.
National Taiwan Museum South Gate Museum
Established in 1897 by the Taiwan Governor-General to regulate the opium trade, the South Gate Factory produced camphor and opium, with the camphor factory being the only public factory in Taiwan during the Japanese era. In 1998, the South Gate Factory was designated as a national heritage site. Since 2006, the National Taiwan Museum has restored the site and turned it into a museum displaying the history of Taiwan’s industrial and colonial past.
National Taiwan Museum Railway Department Park
The Railway Department, a national heritage site, was Taiwan's first modern train repair facility during the Qing Dynasty. After the opening of the Taipei New Station in 1989, the area was abandoned until 2006, when the National Taiwan Museum, in collaboration with the Taiwan Railways Administration, transformed it into a museum park. The museum features four themed exhibition rooms, six digital guides, and over 20 real-time exhibits to showcase the history and architecture of the Railway Department and the restoration process.
