About Taipei Playhouse|A Cultural Showcase of Traditional Chinese Arts in Taiwan
Taipei Playhouse promotes the sustainable spirit of authentic traditional Chinese performing arts, making it the top choice for both locals and international travelers to experience Taiwanese opera culture. Located next to the maple-lined boulevard on Section 2, Zhongshan North Road in Taipei City, it has been a prime area for traditional Taiwanese art performances since its inauguration.
Every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evening, a one-hour highlight performance showcases Taiwan's unique cultural flair through traditional opera and accompanying live traditional Chinese music, making it a must-visit for international travelers and a meaningful practice of "cultural diplomacy."
Highlights of the Playhouse | An Immersive Experience Unlike Any Traditional Theater
Before the show, audiences can experience wearing traditional opera costumes and simple face painting. Unlike conventional proscenium theaters, actors at the Taipei Playhouse interact with the audience outside the theater both before and after the performance, providing a rare opportunity for close interaction, including:
- Face painting (traditional facial makeup) viewing and photography area
- Close-up view of actors’ makeup process
- Opportunities for photos with the actors
Designs Friendly to International Travelers | Subtitles in Four Languages + Multilingual Services
To reduce language barriers, we provide:
- Subtitles in Chinese/English/Japanese/Korean
- On-site staff fluent in these four languages to assist with guiding and inquiries
- Enjoy the performance with ease, no need to understand Chinese
Subtitle locations:
English/Korean: Left side of the stage
Chinese/Japanese: Right side of the stage
